Rephrased story from Daniel 1:6-14: Meshach, Shadrach, Abednego, and Daniel refused to eat the rich food from the king’s table. Daniel did not wish to defile himself with such food, so the guard told them they could do a trial of eating vegetables for ten days to be sure they would not look less healthy for the king.
15: At the end of the ten days they looked healthier and better nourished than any of the young men who ate the royal food.
16: So the guard took away their choice food and the wine they were to drink and gave them vegetables instead.
This is one of the first victories for veganism, straight from the Old Testament Bible.
