Dear friends, Glendora would like you to read about the following from American Vegan Society Magazine, in this particular article it talks about a man named Doctor Michael Klaper. As an MD and as a vegan physician this doctor has been dedicated to saving lives. He says, “Far more lives have been saved by my living my life as a vegan.” As a youth on his uncle’s farm he did everything he could to save injured animals. He encountered violence as a fourth year medical student.
There he saw the worst of what human beings can inflict on each other. “I began to read books about ahimsa, which is not causing harm to others.” He then vowed that if he could not rid the world of violence, then he would do the best to rid his own life of violence. He then encountered the idea of vegetarianism in the in reading of Gandhi and others. But as a medical student he still thought that meat was needed for good health and “protein.” The misconception ended for him in 1981 while he was dining with a fellow anesthesia resident in Vancouver.
He pontificated the virtue of living a violence-free life while finishing off a steak. His friend then looked at him with great compassion and said that “If Michael wanted to get the violence out of his life then he should start with the meat on his plate.” “Because in satisfying the need for the taste of flesh in his mouth, he was paying for the death of the animal — and the next one in line at the slaughterhouse.”
